Here’s the role

An opportunity has opened up for an experienced architect to take on a rewarding leadership role as we take our next steps as a thriving interdisciplinary studio in the capital.

The heart of your job will be to grow and lead projects within our growing Wellington practice. You’ll help cultivate design-thinking, innovation, projects and people as we pursue innovative solutions of form and space that are human-centred, technically astute, efficient and sustainable. 

You’ll be:

  • Leading a range of complex projects that contributes to Isthmus’ standing of diverse and award-winning work across intensive residential, houses and housing, community, civic buildings, masterplans and more
  • Unearthing opportunities and growing our practice with design-led projects that delight, inspire and endure
  • A leader within our studio fostering innovation and our commitment to the environment and community alongside design and delivery excellence
  • Contributing to the vision for the practice and day-to-day studio culture, collaborating with inter-disciplinary teams and supporting our people to grow and do their best work

You’ll be/have:

  • A registered project architect with 7+ years’ experience
  • A track record delivering high calibre projects across residential, commercial and mixed-use
  • Strong design-led thinking and conceptual design skills, ideally through to project delivery 
  • Excellent relationship management skills coupled with a good knowledge of the Wellington market
  • Hungry to have a voice and play a significant role in the continued growth of our architecture practice within the wider interdisciplinary studio
  • Passionate about urbanism and city-making with the desire to play a part in driving the shape of the city
  • An understanding of the interplay between built form and movement, people and places

Senior Urban Designer

Help us lead the way in designing solutions that grow places, neighbourhoods and healthy communities.

Here’s the role:

  • Drive innovation and delivery of award-winning, impactful solutions that extend and enrich places, people and communities
  • Collaborate with our interdisciplinary team to design and deliver a range of innovative greenfields and brownfields projects, town centres, residential and mixed-use masterplans
  • Manage feasibility analysis and budgeting through to delivery and production of detailed design and construction drawings to consent and build
  • Lead client engagements and work closely with developers, council, engineers and consultants

Do you have?:

  • Strategic design skills in urban design and residential master planning with a passion for placemaking and building healthy communities
  • The ability to think big picture and then dive down into the detail and pull it all together to achieve a vision
  • Effective leadership across clients, projects and teams with a drive for excellence and innovation
  • Skilled in a range of design tools and methodologies, including design production using Adobe Suite and Autocad
  • Sound knowledge of the NZ consent environment
  • Ideally, a first degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture or Urban Design

Urban Designer

Are you an inspiring urban designer hungry to join us in the design of innovative projects that influence the way people live, work and play?

Here’s the role

You’ll be part of an interdisciplinary team working across a variety of high impact urban design projects of all scales, including masterplans, town centre and neighbourhood regenerations, that inform the way people live, work and play.

You’ll build your technical, production and design skills and experience while applying a fresh approach to design. Working closely with a team of talented and supportive designers, you will deliver excellent graphics and technical deliverables across a broad range of projects with lots of opportunities to develop your broader design and delivery skills as your talents flourish.

Is this you?

  • Inquisitive about the world around you with a passion for engaging communities, design, innovation and creativity in urbanism and beyond
  • You’ll show a history of achievement and leadership in your work, study and other areas of your life
  • A proactive attitude: you grab opportunities to chart your own course
  • You love to share ideas, learn and collaborate
  • Knowledge of a range of urban design and/or landscape architectural design tools and methodologies
  • Good command of Adobe Suite and AutoCAD
  • Bachelor or Masters in Landscape Architecture, Architecture and/or Urban Design

Graduate Landscape Architect (Auckland & Wellington)

As a result of recent promotions and a studio brimming with exciting new work, we have opportunities for two new landscape architect graduates to join us in Wellington and Auckland.
You’ll be working as part of an interdisciplinary team across a diverse range of projects that enrich communities and land. You’ll deliver excellent graphic and technical deliverables with plenty of opportunities to develop your broader design and delivery skills as your talents flourish.

Is this you?

  • At least 1 – 2 years + studio experience is preferred
  • Super inquisitive about the world around you with a passion for design and innovation in landscape architecture, urbanism and beyond
  • A background of achievement and leadership in work, study and other areas of your life
  • A proactive attitude: you grab opportunities to chart your own course
  • You love to share ideas, learn and collaborate
  • Knowledge of a range of landscape architectural design tools and methodologies
  • You’ll have strong design skills with an eye for detail and an interest in getting things built
  • Strong software knowledge including Adobe Suite, Sketchup and CAD programmes
  • A Bachelor or Masters in Landscape Architecture
