Design Planning

Our Design Planning team focuses on the early stages of a project, providing specialist skills that ensure a design led approach from start-up through to implementation and ongoing management. Our work typically spans the stages of option and feasibility study, scoping and scheme assessment, comprehensive development and management plans, designations, resource consenting and plan change, as well as regional and district plan review processes. At each stage our team is committed to an integrated approach; ensuring benefits are built into the project and RMA 'pitfalls' are excluded from the outset.

Our portfolio includes award winning private and public policy projects, across urban and rural environments from large to small scale. We have led the landscape and urban design workstream on some of New Zealand's most complex infrastructure projects and have extensive experience in housing and commercial development as well as district wide assessments and regional and district policy development. Expert witness roles, for council, Environment Court and the Board of Inquiry are supported by our specialist mapping and visualisation team. Our commitment to ongoing research and benchmarking for best practice is well regarded by our clients and the profession, as is evidenced by our appointment to government agencies to develop national assessment guidelines, metropolitan urban design panels and commissioner roles for council hearings.
